Le Lac des cygnes - P. I. Tchaïkovski
Who doesn’t immediately have the "Dance of the Four Little Swans" in their mind’s eye when they think of the subject of ballet? Or the touching pas de deux of the swan princess Odette and her prince Siegfried? Hardly any other work has had such a strong influence on ballet history up to the present day as Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s "Swan Lake". Yet the reaction to the premiere at Moscow’s Bolshoi Theater in 1877 was rather muted: the music too symphonic, but above all the choreography rather bland. The triumphant success of "Swan Lake" did not begin until 1895, when the choreographers Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov revised the ballet and staged it at the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg - Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) had already died. The choreography around the innocent white swan princess Odette, her seductive counterpart Odile in the form of the black swan and Siegfried searching for his great love is still considered the basis for all productions today.

Così fan tutte - W. A. Mozart
Almost entirely in December 1789, the year of the revolution, the score of this Mozart opera, which is hard to beat in its complexity and amour, was written in the shortest possible time - this time again in collaboration with the famous librettist Lorenzo da Ponte, with whom Mozart had just before successfully brought "Le nozze di Figaro" to the stage. Probably in the tradition of the opera buffa, the opera “Così fan tutte - ossia la scuola degli amanti” was commissioned by Emperor Joseph II. At the center of the amusingly frivolous event is the experienced cynic Don Alfonso, who knows the weaknesses of mankind and who, like a puppeteer, allows the four main characters to repeatedly come together in new pair constellations. The plot, which is kept quite simple and contains no superfluous episodes, is symmetrically structured and corresponds to its character according to the Commedia dell’arte. The duets of the individual couples are bewitching and sensually musical, reflecting the vulnerability and impermanence of the human being. After the work was critically and negatively judged due to the moralizing basic attitude of the 19th century, and repeated revisions were made to the libretto, the opera is now one of the absolute favorites of the public. The American feature film Closer from 2004 with Julia Roberts and Jude Law in the leading roles is based on "Così fan tutte" both in its score and soundtrack.

Andre Schuen
Andrè Schuen studied solo, lieder and oratorio singing at the Salzburg Mozarteum and also attended various master classes. In 2006, the sensitive baritone from South Tyrol made his debut at the Salzburg Festival and initially made a name for himself as a lied singer, while he was also a member of the permanent ensemble at the Graz Opera from 2010 to 2014. Andrè Schuen has thus acquired a multidisciplinary repertoire early in his career. Today, engagements take him to renowned houses and festivals, including the Bavarian State Opera, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Hamburg State Opera and Elbe Philharmonic, the Schubertiade and the Bregenz Festival. In the Lied field, Schuen, who was born in 1984, performs with his sisters, the Boulanger Trio and piano partner Daniel Heide, among others. His opera repertoire includes the title roles in Le nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, or Guglielmo (Così fan tutte) and Don Fernando (Fidelio).
