Verona
With its many historic buildings, some of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, its enchanting location and wonderfully preserved historic center, Verona is indisputably one of the most beautiful cities in northern Italy. As a free Roman city, Verona quickly gained great importance in the 1st century BC. It quickly gained great importance and temporarily became the capital of the Western Roman Empire. In the late Middle Ages and after the Venetian conquest in the 15th century, Verona was a model for all of Europe as a fortified city, and today it represents 2000 years of rich history. Art and culture have always been closely connected with Verona. The city on the Adige experienced its heyday in the 14th century, when many artists, poets and writers found a new home there, among them Dante Alighieri. Today's image of the alleged home of Romeo and Juliet is characterized not only by its Roman and Renaissance buildings, but also by numerous exclusive fashion stores, exquisite restaurants and, of course, not least by the famous amphitheater. In Roman times, the arena held over 30,000 spectators and was used for gladiator fights and competitions. Since 1913 - on the occasion of the 100th birthday of Giuseppe Verdi - open-air operas such as the well-known and popular classics by Puccini, Verdi & Co have been performed in this very special atmosphere. Don't miss this unique musical experience under a starry night sky.
