Ausrine Stundyte
The soprano Aušrine Stundyte (*1976) began her vocal studies in her hometown at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and later continued them at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Leipzig, a city rich in music tradition. The opera and concert singer had her first engagements at the stages in Leipzig, Cologne and Lübeck, and guest appearances took her to Lisbon and Palermo, among other places. This was followed by appearances at the opera houses in Amsterdam, Berlin, Madrid, Munich, Lyon, Vienna, Zurich and at the festivals in Aix-en-Provence, St. Gallen, Salzburg and Savonlinna.  Stundyte`s broad repertoire of roles includes opera classics by Giacomo Puccini (Tosca, Manon Lescaut) and Giuseppe Verdi (Elisabeth in ´Don Carlos`, Amelia in ´Un ballo in Maschera`, Desdemona in Othello) as well as modern opera literature, for example by Béla Bartók (Judith in ´Bluebeard’s Castle`) and Erich W. Korngold (Marietta in ´Die tote Stadt`). At Salzburg Festival 2021 and under the baton of Franz Welser-Möst, the soprano will again sing the title role of Elektra with which she successfully debuted in Salzburg in 2020.

Die Zauberflöte - W. A. Mozart
W. A. Mozart (1756-1791) created a piece of music history with this unique stage work, which since its premiere in September 1791 has become one of the most popular and most performed operas worldwide. When the theater and bon vivant Emanuel Schickaneder approached the financially and psychologically troubled composer in 1790 and presented him with a fairy-tale libretto, Mozart was immediately taken with it and added the masonic ideals and rites that were fashionable at the time. These gave the “Magic Flute” a completely different meaning and transformed the piece from a colorful magic pose into an almost testamentary appeal to humanity - entirely in the style of the spirit of the Viennese Classicism. Musically, this great German opera or Singspiel unites different styles such as opera seria, opera buffa and tragédie lyrique. Mozart’s genius united the French romance, the Italian aria and the German Lied to a fascinating kaleidoscope that inspires young and old alike. Popular arias from the "Magic Flute" such as “The Birdcatcher I am”, “Hell’s Revenge is boiling in my Heart”, or “This Portrait is Enchantingly Beautiful” are easily accessible to everyone. Goethe attested that this music alone would have provided a worthy accompaniment to his Faust.

Mauro Peter
Born in scenic and music-loving Lucerne, Mauro Peter (1987*) is at home in the lyric tenor repertoire. As a child he sang with the Lucerne Boys’ Choir and began his studies at the Hochschule für Musik in Munich in 2008. In 2012 Peter won the Robert Schumann Competition for himself and in the same year made his debuts at the Schubertiade and as part of the Young Singers Project at the Salzburg Festival. Since then he has returned regularly to the Festival stages. In addition to his permanent position at the Zurich Opera House, his tours in the following years have taken him to the Vienna Musikverein, the Munich Philharmonic, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam as well as the Pierre Boulez Saal and the Konzerthaus in Berlin. Mauro Peter’s extensive repertoire includes both intimate lied singing and grand opera. The Swiss tenor has already worked with the great conductors Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Zubin Mehta, Fabio Luisi, Gustavo Dudamel, Iván Fischer, John Eliot Gardiner and Teodor Currentzis. In lieder, Peter performs with the pianist Helmut Deutsch.

Rolando Villazón
Rolando Villazón (*1972) is probably one of the most spirited opera singers and directors of our time. The Mexican-born singer became known to a worldwide audience in 2005 with his role as Alfredo Germont alongside Anna Netrebko in "La traviata" at the Salzburg Festival. The tenor began his international career in 1999 with his European debut in Genoa as Des Grieux in Jules Massenet’s Manon. This was followed by further successful performances at some of the world’s great opera houses, including the Opéra Bastille Paris, the Bavarian State Opera, the Vienna State Opera and the New York Met. His roles include classics such as Rodolfo (La Bohème), Alfredo (La traviata), Roméo (Roméo et Juliette) and Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor). After vocal cord problems and a corresponding operation, Villazón returned to the stage in March 2010 and debuted as an opera director at the Opéra de Lyon one year later with a production of Jules Massenet’s Werther. The versatile artist, who is also active as a writer and presenter, has been the artistic director of the Mozartwoche Salzburg since 2017. Rolando Villazón has had French citizenship since 2007, is married and has two sons.
