Le Nozze di Figaro - W. A. Mozart
“Le nozze di figaro” marked the beginning of the happy and fruitful collaboration between W. A. Mozart (1756-1791) and his librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte, which was to bring both success and artistic satisfaction. Although Da Ponte, as a precautionary measure and in view of the sharp censorship, dispensed with the biting sarcasm of Beaumarchais’ original, which served as the model for the new opera buffa, there was still enough fuel in it to deal with a major theme of the time: The examination of the complex relationships between the social classes, or rather the discrimination of the lower classes by the upper ones. While Count Almaviva embodies a reactionary representative of the nobility, the shrewd Figaro is presented as a representative of the rising third class. Two forces face each other here, each claiming power in pre-revolutionary Europe. Mozart found in this passionate and ironic piece so much of the shame and disappointments he had experienced during his artistic life that he let all his bitter experiences and mental anguish flow into the composition. Despite the explosive theme, the premiere performance in Vienna in 1786 under the reign of Emperor Joseph II was a great success. Today "Le nozze di figaro" is one of the most popular and most performed operas worldwide.

Andre Schuen
Andrè Schuen studied solo, lieder and oratorio singing at the Salzburg Mozarteum and also attended various master classes. In 2006, the sensitive baritone from South Tyrol made his debut at the Salzburg Festival and initially made a name for himself as a lied singer, while he was also a member of the permanent ensemble at the Graz Opera from 2010 to 2014. Andrè Schuen has thus acquired a multidisciplinary repertoire early in his career. Today, engagements take him to renowned houses and festivals, including the Bavarian State Opera, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Hamburg State Opera and Elbe Philharmonic, the Schubertiade and the Bregenz Festival. In the Lied field, Schuen, who was born in 1984, performs with his sisters, the Boulanger Trio and piano partner Daniel Heide, among others. His opera repertoire includes the title roles in Le nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, or Guglielmo (Così fan tutte) and Don Fernando (Fidelio).

Christian Thielemann
Christian Thielemann has been one of the great German conductors of our time for years. Born in 1959 in what was then West Berlin, he began his professional career in his native city at the Deutsche Oper under none other than Herbert von Karajan (1908-1989). Via various stations in Karlsruhe and Düsseldorf, among others, he moved to Nuremberg in 1988 as - at that time - the youngest General Music Director. Nine years later, Thielemann returned to Berlin to the Deutsche Oper, then led the Munich Philharmonic from 2004 to 2011, in each case also in the positions of general music director. Thielemann has been involved with the Bayreuth Festival since 2010. In 2015, he was appointed music director there. In the 2012/13 season, he moved to Dresden to join the Sächsische Staatskapelle, and in 2013 he additionally took on the position of artistic director at the Salzburg Easter Festival. Christian Thielemann maintains close ties with the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras. Thielemann has received numerous awards and honors for his achievements, including his honorary doctorate from the Hochschule für Musik ´Franz Liszt` Weimar, the Richard Wagner Prize, the Prize of the Foundation for the Promotion of the Semper Opera, and honorary membership of the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Gustav Mahler Association Hamburg.
