Dublin
Between the nearby Wicklow Mountains and the Irish Sea, Dublin welcomes its guests in the historic city centre and with its lively hospitality, which can be best experienced in one of the many traditional pubs with a cool Guinness or a good glass of whiskey. Visit the 12th century St Patrick’s Cathedral, dedicated to Ireland’s patron saint, Dublin Castle or the Trinity Library, which contains more than 4.5 million works, to name just a few of the highlights. As the hometown of Oscar Wilde, Bram Stoker, George Bernard Shaw and James Joyce, the Irish capital was honoured as a UNESCO City of Literature - a title to which the lively city on the Liffey feels deeply connected. The Museum of Literature Ireland offers interesting insights into the work of poets and writers, and visitors will also come across original statues on the streets and in the parks that keep the memory of the artists alive. Musically, Dublin is home to the National Symphony Orchestra and the Irish National Opera. A special feature is that the opera company performs in opera houses and theatres throughout the country and is therefore frequently on tour. In Dublin, it performs in the Victorian Gaiety Theatre and in the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, which opened in 2010 and is the largest theatre in the country with a good 2,100 seats.
La musique donne une âme à nos cœurs et des ailes à la pensée.
