Nicknamed the “City of a Hundred Spires,” Prague inspired artists such as Ludwig van Beethoven, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, as well as Fyodor Dostoevsky, Guillaume Apollinaire and Auguste Rodin in their works. The city is home to countless treasures, including the astronomical clock of the Town Hall, the Baroque St. Nicholas Church, the winding streets of the Jewish Quarter, Prague Castle and the palace gardens. A stroll along the Vltava River offers magnificent views of the Charles Bridge, a splendid 14th-century Gothic masterpiece.

Three major venues are dedicated to opera: the National Theatre, which mainly presents works by Antonín Dvořák, Leoš Janáček and Bedřich Smetana; the Estates Theatre, where Don Giovanni premiered in 1787 and which still focuses primarily on the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; and the recently renovated Prague State Opera, which presents an international repertoire.
